MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 17, 2018) - The multi-talented McKennedy, who copped the ISMA championship in 2017, driving for Lee and Pam Vinyl, used some of his pre-ISMA 2018 season time to compete in the Whelen Modified Tour Performance Plus 150 at Myrtle Beach, SC, this past weekend.
McKennedy, driving for the Tommy Baldwin Jr. 7NY owned modified team, started on the pole alongside Matt Hirschman and stayed within striking distance of the lead. After pitting on lap 99, McKennedy worked his way to the front where he stayed to the checkered. Jimmy Blewett and Hirschman rounded out the top three.
Jon McKennedy, not an unfamiliar name to the New England fans in modified circles, joined a new ISMA team P&L Motorsports in 2017, owned by Pam and Lee Vinal. Jon, a very successful modified driver, jumped behind the wheel of the P&L 21 and found it a comfortable fit. By the fourth race of the season he had picked up a first-time win for his car owners at Jennerstown Speedway.
For McKennedy, who has raced on and off with ISMA over the years with several car owners, it was a career 8th ISMA victory. His championship run was his first. While Jon will continue to share his driving duties with the modifieds, he will be at Monadnock on May 19 to start his defense of his 2017 ISMA title.
